Lionel Messi, the undisputed super star footballer from Argentina hails from a family where there is a tradition wherein the kids start kicking the balls right from the age of five-years. His father started training him for football at a local club in his home town. However, soon the father realized that just by coaching Lionel at the club will not make him a super star. Therefore, he enrolled him into the most prestigious football academy in Argentina.
Jorge Messi, father of Lionel was a factory worker and his mother Celia was a part time cleaner. Lionel Messi's paternal family originates from Italy. Besides his parents, Lionel Messi's family comprises of two older brothers Rodrigo and Matias and a sister Maria Sol. At the age of 11, Lionel was diagnosed with a disease known as 'Growth Hormone Deficiency' and the treatment cost around $900 per month, which was beyond the capabilities of his father. Then, the sporting director of Barcelona recognized his skills and talents and offered him to take care of his treatment cost.
